On Friday 17 April, Riksscenen gathered for a celebration of music without borders as Arne Berg and Sigbjørn Nedland invited us to "Jungeltelegrafens nachspiel" – a full evening of stories, highlights and live music from their many years as musical explorers on NRK P2. Most of the performers on stage were Samspill members.
For almost 30 years, Jungeltelegrafen has been a steady beacon for all of us hungry for music that sits outside the tempered scale, south of the charts, north of the format and east of the industry bubble. When the debate about NRK scrapping its music programmes flared up last autumn, the people behind the show decided "to hell with it" and put together a proper full-length evening at Riksscenen.
Musical Norway will be poorer without this important broadcast, but this evening we gathered around a different campfire: veterans Arne Berg and Sigbjørn Nedland shared stories and highlights from their radio years, and several of the country's finest musicians took to the stage. Even more turned up for the after-party in the basement.
On stage
- Arne Berg and Sigbjørn Nedland
- Mira Thiruchelvam and Sunthar Kanesan
- Solo Diarra, Bafana Isaac Nhlapo, Joel Ring and Ivan Blomquist
- Daniel Lazar and Almir Meskovic
- Celio Miglioli de Carvalho
- Nawara Alnaddaf
- Kajsa Sogn Balto
- Ragnhild Tronsmo Haugland
DJs: Karoline Asskildt (DJ Inkognito) and Kent Erlend Horne. Arne spun records too.
A huge thank you to Riksscenen for the collaboration, and to all the musicians, presenters and audience members who made the evening a nachspiel for the ages.
