By collaborating with JM Norway, we have taken the project a few steps further, and their MUA project is a methodology that has been developed through 10 years of work with the target group. It has been developed by music therapists, who have special expertise in how music can be used to promote mastery regardless of previous knowledge, regulate emotions, strengthen social cohesion, and reduce isolation. The methodology takes into account and is designed to incorporate and change based on what participants are motivated and willing to do.

The project offers a space where children and young people in asylum centers can experience mastery, social cohesion, and development in a daily life that is otherwise largely characterized by passivity, waiting, and uncertainty. When we also involve musicians with their own experiences from asylum centers or as immigrants to Norway, we give the project an additional lift and relevance.
