A family day with cultural treasures from around the world!

Welcome to a family day filled with folk cultures from near and far! Out of the treasure chest flows music, dance, and cultural expressions from all over the world. And the best part – everyone gets to join in! Outdoors, the area comes alive with free activities, workshops, mini-concerts, shows, magic, and delightful food stalls from every corner of the globe. Indoors, we invite you to a Treasure Hunt, where you will be guided through three unique performances featuring fabulous musicians and dancers.

Skattekista at Schous - 30. august 2025 at Riksscenen

Skattekista at Rommen - 6. september 2025 at Rommen scene

Skattekista is being established as a brand new family festival in Groruddalen!
Skattekista at Rommen is a free offshoot of Skattekista at Schous, which for the past 5 years has gathered children at and around Riksscenen in Grünerløkka, Oslo.

During the last weekend of August and the first weekend of September, children aged 0 to 12 years and their families are invited to a festival with concerts, performances, and a wide range of workshops and activities. The festival is a low-threshold offer for families living in the area. The program is composed of professional acts and local cultural initiatives.

The festival presents art and cultural expressions from various parts of the world. Indoors, there is a professional artistic program where the audience is guided from stage to stage, experiencing three unique performances within an hour. This is repeated three times a day. In addition, the outdoor program is rich with a mix of concerts on the outdoor stage, craft workshops, diverse activities, and experiences with local associations and a wide selection of food stalls.

At previous Skattekista festivals, we have presented flamenco from Spain, dhaanto from Somalia, capoeira from Brazil, joik from Sapmi, bhangra from India, darbuka from Iran, kora from Senegal, halling from Norway, ebru painting from Turkey, mariachi from Mexico, oud from Syria, Romani songs from traveling Romani communities, and much more.

Here, children get to experience cultural treasures from many places in the world. They get to try for themselves, do it together with their family, and feel both curiosity, surprise, and recognition. We hope the festival will help strengthen local identity, pride, and community.

Skattekista at Rommen is initiated by Samspill International Music Network and Riksscenen. It is organized by Samspill in collaboration with Rommen Scene and local art and cultural actors at and around Rommen Scene.
