Born in 1992, August Kann from Ski in Norway started playing music at the age of 9 when he and some friends established a rock band. The 9-year-old would be embarrassed to see and hear how soft his music has grown. August describes his music as “simple”, yet his music is comfy, well-executed and reaches out to the listeners heart in the best possible way. His lyrics is often inspired by both his own stories and day to day conversations with others. The music combines references from artists such as Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Bon Iver and Thomas Dybdahl, and also takes on many different genres.
August loves playing his music for people and is a frequent addition to many local stages around the country. In addition to using his voice, August also plays both piano and guitar. His live performances are known for being cozy, yet August says he can be a bit absentminded when playing gigs. However, he knows how to win over the crowd by a good dosage of humor and charm.
August released his debut album «How did all these people get into my room» in 2019. It gained a lot of publicity from Norwegian radio, and music journalists. Tor Hammerø describes August as «a magnificent storyteller» after listening to the album. Jon Arnesen from Musikk.Media compares August to Paul Simon, and he isn’t the only one. In Netherlands, Ralph W. from «White Room Reviews» and Corné Van Groenedaal from «Mpodia» claims that the music gives associations to Paul Simon and his album «Graceland». August himself is happy to be compared to his big idol.
His second album was released in 2021, with new stories and old sounds. The first single of the album was released at the time of the US election in 2020. «Who Do Voodoo Like You Do» is a protest song against Donald Trump. Along with Henrik Nordahl and Adrian Axel, August made a music video for the song, which gained a lot of publicity and won gold in the category «Moving Image» at the Norwegian Grafill Awards. It is also nominated for «Best Music Video» in Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
