Brooke Sharkey is a British Singer Songwriter, producer and poet who partially grew up in France. Love, and her connection to nature, has lead her to find a new home on the outskirts of Oslo, Norway, where she currently resides.
She writes slow evolving, poetic and introspective contemporary folk using her voice as the ‘lyric carrier’ and as an additional instrument. Her current influences include artists such as Kate Bush, Ane Brun, Rozi plain, Pomme, Lhasa de Sela, Sufjan Stevens, Christine and the Queens and Francois and the Atlas mountain. Daily life, dream and written poetry inspires her work (Mary Oliver, Rumi ) which has lead her of recent to write her own poems. Brooke has often collaborated with local musicians to create sounds that echo’d the time and place in which the songs came forth using the unfolding of life experiences and encounters with people and the natural environment as main inspiration to her production work. Her composed lyrics often contain poetic imagery and metaphor in both English and French that reach into the themes of love, loss, grief, beauty, nature, sensuality, the body, and wonder.
Starting her music career as a street performer and session singer at 16, she has since released 2 Eps and 2 full length albums ‘One Dress’ (2012) and ‘Wandering Heart’ (V2 records- 2016), travelled and toured extensively gaining recognition from The Guardian claiming her as one of the top 50 independent artists in the world in 2016.
Brooke’s music has been played extensively on BBC radio 2, Radio 6, BBC Scotland, Radio FIP (France) and Radio 1 Belgium with live sessions on NPO Radio 1 and 2 in The Netherlands. She has also captured the attention of The guardian, Loud and quiet magazine, Acoustic magazine and Maverick magazine and has headlined venues such as the Jazz cafe in Camden and The Union chapel, London (co-winning concert of the year 2017). She has also nominated for the production awards (UK).
