Concert No. 100 on Sunday World!

On 4 June we celebrate 100 concerts at Sunday World!

Since 2015, Samspill and Cafe Sør have collaborated on the concert series Sunday World; a showcase series for new and exciting music within international traditional and popular music. On Sunday 4 June we are organising concert number 100!

Since its inception in 2015, the series has contributed to as many as 365 musicians filling Cafe Sør with both old and new music from various corners of the world, and Sunday World has established itself as an important springboard for new musicians and new groups within non-Western genres. On Sunday evenings you can hear everything from Cuban Latin jazz and fusion of traditional music from Brazil, Syria and Kurdistan, to West African hip-hop in Wolof and Arabic love songs! Since 2021, budding producers among Samspill's members have also been responsible for the programming of the concert program, and this spring's program has been booked by the Brazilian percussionist Eduardo Scaramuzza.

4th of June we'll host our concert no. 100 with the group Ragascape who plays Indian raga music! Ragascape is a unique group of vocals, bansuri, harmonium and tablas performing raga music, ghazal and more. They played at the Mela Festival in both 2021 and 2022. Raga music is described as spiritual, meditative at the same time as it is emotional and emotionally marked and is based on improvisation where the audience's energy contributes to the music.

Warm up to the concert with this video of their performance from last year's Mela Festival:
