Musikk – Fan-Qi Wu

Fan-Qi is an award-winning Pipa player from Taiwan.

Influenced and inspired by minimalist music, Scandinavian jazz, and Asian traditional music, she has absorbed different vocabularies and developed her sound in an eclectic, poetic, and spacious way. Her groundbreaking explorations of pipa have expanded the possibilities of pipa music, creating an innovative and unique bridge between cultures.

After she won the first prize in National Pipa competition in 2019, Fan-Qi started to immersed herself in improvisation and world music, hoping to connect with the world through her instrument—the Pipa.

Fan-Qi has performed in cities throughout Asia, America, and Europe and has been invited to participate in many international festivals, artistic residencies, and concert series, such as Bingsjöstämman (Sweden, 2019), Nankan Children’s Art Village (Taiwan, 2020), Siren festival (Sweden, 2022), Babel Sound Festival (Hungary, 2022,2024), IMPRA Jazz Festival (Sweden, 2022), Klänge aus Ostasien (Germany, 2022), Building Bridges (Switzerland, 2022,2023,2024) Romantic Route 3 Art Festival (Taiwan, 2023), OneBeat(USA, 2023), Arena:Klassik (Norway, 2024)

Fan-Qi’s awards and honors include OneBeat 12 -selected by U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs(2023), Axel Adler Scholarship (2021-2023), Carl Larsson – stipendium för konstnärlig (2022), scholarship recipient of Overseas study from the Taiwanese Government (2022), Ethno Mobility Scholarship (2022), and the holder of Hsing Tian Kong Long-Term Fellowship for Special talented Students (2018-2023).

Besides her own project, she is also a member of Wooli Duo, Mykorhiza, and PIPA-ensemble.
